中国古代灯具的历史历经数千年。古人用火把、油灯来驱散黑暗，商朝、魏晋时期最早出现了青瓷灯；春秋战国时期古人用石槽，蚌壳做灯盏，就有了油灯；到了唐宋时期出现了专为贵族所用的彩陶灯；明清时代，受到宗教文化和民俗文化的影响，灯具造型中出现了文殊菩萨灯和童子灯。晚清和民国时期，由于洋油(煤油)的输入，人们开始普遍的用上了煤油灯。随着时间的流逝，灯艺逐渐融入了节日庆典，成为不可或缺的文化符号。
The history of ancient Chinese lighting spans thousands of years. Ancient people used torches and oil lamps to dispel darkness, and the use of celadon lamps first appeared during the Shang and Wei-Jin periods (more than 3,000 years ago). In the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods (770 BC to 221 BC), people used stone troughs and clam shells to make lamp holders, thus giving birth to oil lamps. During the Tang (618–906) and Song (960–1279) dynasties, colorful pottery lamps designed for nobility began to emerge. Influenced by religious and folk cultures in the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368–1911), lamps such as those depicting Manjushri Bodhisattva and child figures appeared in the designs. In the late Qing and Republic of China periods, with the introduction of foreign oil (kerosene), kerosene lamps became popular. As time passed, the art of lighting gradually merged into festive celebrations, becoming an indispensable cultural symbol.

In terms of shapes, there are animals, flowers, figures, and so on. In terms of functionality, there are decorative lamps, practical lamps, and ornamental lamps. Each lamp is a manifestation of skilled craftsmanship and wisdom.
